1% BACK TO MAINE®
We have always been driven to support Maine’s communities by giving back to humanitarian, environmental, and health-and-wellness non-profit programs.
I am an active contributor to 1% Back to MAINE® which focuses on supporting the next generation of Mainers and Maine’s youth, by helping to give them the greatest chance at creating a more wonderful world. Selling homes in the community affords me the privilege of giving back to the communities that I live and work in.
On a quarterly basis the Portside Foundation and other participating Portside agents give 1% of top line revenue to local nonprofits supporting systemic Maine problems. These issues include: education, generational poverty + affordable housing, substance abuse, limited access to medical care, and food insecurity.
How it works:
- A dedicated group of Portside 1% Back to MAINE® board members work in tandem with Maine Community Foundation to unanimously select grants that are in alignment with our quarterly initiatives.
- When reviewing grants, we look for nonprofits that align completely with our mission as 1% Back to MAINE®.
- We also are looking to ensure that the grants emphasize diversity and inclusivity and are providing a sustainable solution to one of the many challenges facing Maine’s youth

WELLS ROTARY
The Rotary Club of Wells was chartered on January 17, 1986 and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ogunquit Maine. As a community-based nonprofit focused on humanitarianism within our community, we often partner with other community organizations to help make a positive impact.
Community projects which we have supported
- ✓ the refurbishment of the Wells Activity Center, construction of the Wells Harbor Park Pavilion,
- ✓ Construction of the new Wells High School Concession Stand,
- ✓ Construction of the Wells Park and Recreation Pavilion.
- ✓ We also spearheaded the effort to install a beautiful (15') 4 sided clock near the town
- center, adjacent to the firehouse on Route 1
Fundraising is also a part of our club mission with all proceeds dedicated to meet the critical needs of our community. Proceeds have benefits scholarships, local food pantries to name a few. Some of those have included:
- ✓ The sale of onion bulbs
- ✓ Annual Golf Classic
- ✓ Mystery Dinner
- ✓ Miniature Golf
Service projects are not only a benefit for the community but also a great way to enjoy fellowship with fellow Rotarians and members of the community. These are not typically fundraisers but rather projects where we donate our time to help make a difference. Some examples of those include:
- ✓ Community reading at Wells public Schools.
- ✓ Monthly volunteering at “Soups on” food pantry
- ✓ Christmas Caroling at Stephen Eaton Apartments
- ✓ Red Cross Blood drives
